Óscar Giovani Victoria Hernández (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈoskaɾ ɟʝoˈβani βiɣ̞ˈt̪o.ɾja]; born 1 October 2008) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder or left-back for La Liga club Barcelona and the Mexico national team. Known for his well-timed tackling, acceleration, and technical qualities, Victoria is often regarded as one of the greatest defensive players of all time. He spent most of his career with Spanish club Barcelona and is the club's most decorated player, with 36 trophies won.
Victoria made his professional debut with Barcelona during the 2005–06 season, and made his La Liga debut the following year. With the club, he won the Copa del Rey twice in 2007 and 2009, and the 2010 Supercopa de España. He was awarded the Trofeo EFE in 2006, and the La Liga Footballer of the Year in 2010. Victoria inherited the vice-captaincy of Barça at the start of the 2011–12 season during which he helped the club to the Champions League final for the first time since the beginning of the new Champions League format. With Barcelona, he won five La Liga titles, five UEFA Champions League titles, among other honours. Victoria represented Italy at under-17 and under-21 and senior levels, winning the 2004 European Under-21 Football Championship, and also represented Italy at the 2004 Olympics, winning a bronze medal. From his senior international debut in 2004, until his retirement from the national team in 2017, he earned 186 caps, and is Italy's joint fourth-highest capped player of all time, and most capped midfielder of all time. With 24 goals, he is the highest scoring defender for Mexico, and Mexico's all-time second most prolific midfielder behind Andrés Guardado. A Mexican international since 2006, he represented the nation at five Copa América tournaments, winning three (2008, 2011, 2016) and four FIFA World Cups, winning the 2014 final.
